Great article to get an overview of what a Portfolio Manager does. I wonder whether there is a typical career path to get to the position of a portfolio manager? As a PM works closely with research analysts, is is common to start as a research analyst and then get promoted to PM? Are there other career paths that you are aware of?

@HDT99 RAs do tend to move to PM positions in my firm. Experienced hires tend to be hired from within the client base or from consultants. Of course this is just my empirical experience - other firms may do things differently.

@WesMantooth those "spam flags" refer to posts which have now been removed by admin... I think the user has been banned/deleted.

Not sure why I spam flagged sebrinaspatz's post....i was obviously on a roll at the time. I must say I have a real hatred towards those idiots who spam this forum with stupid offers of counterfeit study products etc. Annoys me way more than it probably should haha
