So I read a while back somewhere that the CFA exam followed the 50-40-10 pattern of difficulty of the exam questions. That is 50% easy, 40% moderate and 10% difficult questions. Is this true and if so wouldn’t the exam be reasonably easy then?

@tingwuwang‌ some people have problems with timing, others don’t. I never had issues with time, but @Sophie‌ and @christine‌ always did. I wouldn’t worry that you’re ‘missing something’.

i’m actually kind of worried here, because in my experience with mock exams, i’ve always managed (somehow don’t ask me) to finish on average an hour or so before the 6 hours is up. my marks aren’t terribly bad (although compared to some other marks that people are getting it’s not that great either). Am I missing something or is that how mock exams usually go and then come test day, the questions will destroy you in terms of time?

I’ll give you one dirty little secret. It IS not difficult. The real challenge is time constraint; there is one thing to do those 50-40-10 pattern problems if you’re not under time pressure, and totally another issue if you must do those 240 bloody problems within 90 seconds each in average.

I’ve personally also not had much problem with time. But during the actual exam, the pressure is going to be quite high and I might end up spending extra time reading questions extra carefully and double checking to see if my answers are correct. Just hope I’m confident on that day and don’t waste much time doing that.
