@Ankita I would suggest to just use the videos that you feel like you need extra help on, e.g. FRA. I know that’s hard to justify buying the whole set, but if you feel like you really need help on certain sections it might be worth the investment.
The 11th Hour guide is great for those last few weeks but assumes that you’re well versed in the material already.
If you’re looking for a good review, then the 11th Hour Guide is the way to go. If you’re searching for further clarification on a given subject, I would go with the videos.

I’ll definitely need to be able to speak, in-depth, to at least a few companies that I should know inside and out. And good call on publicizing my predictions online. I’ll have to find a way to put my analysis on display but use a bit of tact in making my predictions. And keep up the good work! It sounds like you are on the cusp of making that breakthrough in your own journey.
in reply to: 2015 Level III or Make Push into Desired Role #80282::@MockTurtle Wow, that is quite impressive, my friend. That actually gives me a great deal of optimism because as of right now, the only demands I have in my life right now are work and some dental work I need to address. Oh and a wedding in Japan during a week in February. While I’m definitely going to prioritize my level III studies, I’m confident that I’ll be able to devote part of my time to my website/modelling skills. Thank you for the vote of confidence!

I’ve just started the Wall Street Prep course and plan on completing at least one research report/valuation model to post on my website before I start studying for level III in early November!
Again, thank you so much for your post
in reply to: 2015 Level III or Make Push into Desired Role #80078::That’s a good point. I tend to have a one-track
mind when it comes to these things. The more feedback I get, and the more I
think about it, I think some type of mix between the two is in order. Something
like spending a few hours a week building my website, but definitely
prioritizing passing level III this coming year. Then once I pass (fingers
crossed), I can switch gears and focus on making my move. But I think you’re
right, having that designation next to my name when I start applying will be
extremely helpful.I’m currently a results analyst for Capital
Group in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, there’s no financial modelling work
involved as it is a performance measurement role, which makes it all the more
difficult to make the switch. I totally agree with you that real, on-the-job
experience would be best, but my current role doesn’t really offer anything in
the way of that. Which is why I thought about taking the website route. I am,
however, currently partaking in Wall Street Prep’s online course. You provide some very valuable insight on the analytical basics picked
up in the CFA program, but I just wonder if that’ll be enough to steer the
ship. Besides the CFA and this website idea, I suppose I just need to do my
best to keep networking as well.

It looks like they’ve dropped a whole bunch of readings for level II, and added only 1 or 2.
in reply to: Study for 2015 with 2014 materials? #79704::I would highly recommend by the most current materials. For June 2014 level II they added whole new sections.
An extra couple hundred bucks to give yourself the best shot at passing seems well worth it compared to the alternative: putting in 6 months of work, failing due to curriculum gaps, and then having to repeat the process again but this time actually buying the current curriculum because you finally realized your mistake.
But to be fair, people pass the exam while “punting” whole sections even with the most up-to-date materials, so I suppose you could probably get by on one year old materials.

in reply to: The CFA Level I & II June 2014 Results Roundup #79668::@microeconomist i second that! i found that i actually did better when i studied less! rather than burning myself out with 20-30 hour weeks, i would aim for 8-12 and found myself more productive, less stressed, and able to retain more.
and of of course, 95% of those 8-12 hours came from the weekend.
in reply to: Primary Study Source and why? #79662::I used Schweser for my first attempt at level 2 and I felt it did a poor job of covering the material, which was a common complaint by other candidates. For level I, Schweser was amazing. For level 2, not so much. For level II I would recommend a combination of Elan Guides and the CFAI texts:– Elan Study Notes– Elan Lecture Videos (especially those given by Peter Olinto)– CFAI End of Chapter Questions– CFAI Blue Box Examples– Elan Practice Questions (but prioritize CFAI EOC’s)– CFAI Mock Exams– Elan Mock ExamsThis is by and large what I did for my recent success with level 2. Peter and Basit of Elan do a great job of explaining the concepts (especially pension accounting) and letting you know which topics to focus on.in reply to: The CFA Level I & II June 2014 Results Roundup #79645::The more I look at my score breakdown, the more I don’t understand how I passed lol. I had 4 below 50%, 2 between 51-70%, and 4 above 70%
What you entered
- Your indicated grade: Pass
- Materials used: Elan Guides
You scored higher than 13.4% of all Level II results in our database
- Your 40/60/80 score is: 61.7%
- Your minimum score is: 45%
- Your maximum score is: 75.1%
I almost feel the need to register for level III right away to “lock in” my results…
