Hey @theseeker123 – it really depends what your current work experience is (number of years of experience, job sector, location, etc).

I’ve just written an article about career changes with CFA which may be helpful (https://www.300hours.com/cfa-career-change/). Through my discussions with recruiters, hedge fund recruitment has much less data hence Alternative investments was not included in my career switching chart – but hopefully it serves as a good background info to see all the CFA career data in one place. Hope this helps start the conversation!

This was a great insightful article.

Can I ask, you said “The top 10 most popular jobs CFA candidates would like to explore in the next 5 years are Portfolio Management (45% of candidates), Investment Banking (39%), Private Equity (33%), Buy-Side Research (32%), Corporate Finance (31%), Wealth Management (26%), Alternative Investments (21%), Risk Management (21%), Financial Planning (20%) and Consulting (19%).”

Those 45% of candidates, did they get into Portfolio management ? That’s my biggest question right now.

Was it genuinely worth doing to get into the Portfolio Management industry ?

Off course there are other factors such as track record, personality..etc but did the CFA qualification get the door open to the interview.

Hi @theseeker123 , due to COVID-19, CFA Institute has frozen the curriculum for 2020-2021 exams, meaning that 2021 exams will feature 2020 curriculum materials (no updates or changes this year).

So you can register now for either Aug or Nov 2021 L1 and have the materials to start studying.

    Thank you.

I did call the CFA today and I can confirm you’re right.

Along with the CFA curriculam book they provide, would you use KAPLAN Notes ? Or would you recommend any other resources ?

I’d work through those first – topic tests, EOC and 3 mocks are a good healthy amount and a lot more than what they used to hand out to candidates. You might find it’s enough, and if it isn’t there are always top-up packages from providers you can get.

For L1 we also have two free practice tests you can use:

    https://www.300hours.com/heres-a-free-practice-test-for-all-cfa-level-i-candidates/#.Xz-KKRNKi88

Our partner providers also have full versions of their products made free through our links below:

Kaplan Schweser’s QBank, use code KS-QB300HUWorld’s 90-day package made free through this link – you can claim now and activate your 90 days later

Together with your CFAI material, that’s a lot of practice!

I tried using the KS-QB300H code but it says invalid.

Would you have another one by chance ?

    thank you
